A car is a mechanical device that has four wheels and is propelled by an internal combustion engine. It was invented by Karl Benz and was patented in 1886. After years of development, the automobile became widely available in the 20th century. The Ford Model T, an affordable mass-produced car, first came on the market in 1908. The Model T became a popular choice among American families and replaced the horse-drawn carriage. After World War II, the demand for automobiles increased in the US and Europe. Automobiles are now considered an essential part of developed economies.
