In 1890, Emile Levassor and Armand Peugeot began producing vehicles powered by Daimler engines. They set the stage for a French automotive industry. In 1891, Auguste Doriot and Louis Rigoulot made the longest journey by gasoline-powered vehicle. They drove the Peugeot Type 3 while attached to the first Paris-Brest-Paris bicycle race. In just six days, they had completed the journey, which is still the world record for the longest journey by gasoline-powered vehicle.
